John Wilkinson Memorial Cup

Annual charity rugby match in memory of John Wilkinson

This is the second annual charity rugby match in memory of John Wilkinson who, over his 40-plus year career, taught countless students here at The Hinckley School and contributed to the wider community through his involvement in sport.

Sadly, beloved teacher John lost his battle with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer in January 2023 and this annual event aims to raise awareness and funds for Pancreatic Cander UK. Donations will be accepted here: https://fundraise.pancreaticcancer.org.uk/fundraisers/becwilkinson/john-wilkinson-charity-rugby-match-15th-november-2025

Pancreatic cancer is the deadliest common cancer. Half of people diagnosed die within 3 months. Early detection saves lives. However, currently over 80% of people with pancreatic cancer are diagnosed too late to receive potentially life-saving treatment. One of the reasons why early detection of pancreatic cancer is so challenging is that the symptoms of pancreatic cancer are vague and non-specific. This means that it is incredibly difficult for GPs to spot early signs of the disease, and most people are diagnosed too late for treatment that could save their lives. By raising awareness of this cruel disease and fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK, the aim is to help others in the future to have a chance of early diagnosis and a chance at life. Donations will be accepted here: https://fundraise.pancreaticcancer.org.uk/fundraisers/becwilkinson/john-wilkinson-charity-rugby-match-15th-november-2025.

Early entry for the Hinckley School vs Hinckley RFC game will be free of charge, but spectators are asked to kindly consider donating using the link above. On the day, donations will also be taken at the pre-match hospitality tables. There are still some hospitality tables available, which each seat 10 people – should you wish to book one, please use the following link: https://buytickets.at/hinckleyrugbyclub/1772670.

Mr Wilkinson was a special person to many and left a lasting legacy here at The Hinckley School and within the wider community. This event is a fitting annual tribute to his memory and hopefully, together, we can help beat this disease. Thank you in advance for your support.
