At The Hinckley Sixth Form, we believe that academic success should be matched by real-world readiness. That's why every Year 12 student studies the Cambridge OCR Level 3 Award in Personal Finance, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed financial decisions throughout their lives.
Whether progressing to university, an apprenticeship, or employment, students will face important financial responsibilities. This qualification provides a practical understanding of money management, helping young people develop the confidence to navigate adulthood successfully.
Financial wellbeing plays a vital role in overall quality of life. Understanding how to manage money effectively can reduce financial stress, support long-term security, and empower students to make informed choices about their future.
What Will Students Learn?
Students develop a strong foundation in key areas of personal finance, including:
- Sources of income
- Managing expenditure
- Budgeting and financial planning
- Saving for major life goals such as a first car, home ownership, or retirement
- Financial products and how they work
- Financial services available to consumers
- Understanding and managing financial risk
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Students participate in two dedicated Personal Finance sessions each fortnight, delivered by our experienced teaching staff and a range of external guest speakers. These sessions bring financial education to life through real-world examples and expert insight into contemporary financial topics, including emerging areas such as cryptocurrency.
A Valuable Qualification
The course culminates in a final examination in May and provides students with a recognised Level 3 qualification that demonstrates practical financial understanding alongside their academic studies.
